American comic conquers Heathrow chaos
Adam Conover makes it to his London gig... eventually
American comic Adam Conover has vowed he will be on stage at the Leicester Square Theatre tonight – after the Heathrow chaos turned the ten-hour flight from Los Angeles into an epic 24-hour trek.
The comedian, who starred in the TV series Adam Ruins Everything, was 90 minutes into his American Airlines flight to London when the pilot told passengers of the blaze that closed Europe’s busiest airport.
The plane turned around and returned to LAX, where Conover posted: ‘I have to figure out a new way to get to London immediately or cancel my show. And my edible JUST kicked in.’
However his ‘heroic’ assistant had managed to find him an alternative route – flying to New York, taking a four-hour layover before flying to Manchester then taking the train to London.
After the arrangements were made, he then posted: ‘I have a sold-out show and I will not be missing it.’
Last night the 42-year-old told the New York Post: ‘I went back home…I watched the Severance finale, got three hours sleep, went back to LAX, and now I’m on my way to [JFK].’
And early this morning he posted an Instagram reel of him in the UK, captioning it: ‘On the train to London now, tired but happy.’
In true ‘show-must-go-on’ spirit, Conover added to the Post: ‘I think both Brits and Americans need to laugh about how fucked air travel is right now.’
But he does plan to tell the London audience: ‘You better enjoy this show – I went through hell to bring it to you,’
