Netflix deal for comic who played Donald Trump rally

Tony Hinchcliffe also brings Kill Tony to the UK

The comedian who called Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of garbage at a Donald Trump rally last year has landed a deal with Netflix.

The streaming giant has announced that it will run three improvised shows based on Tony Hinchcliffe’s Kill Tony podcast, starting on April 7, plus a one-hour stand-up special.

In the hit podcast, aspiring comedians are given one minute to impress Hinchcliffe, co-host Brian Redban and celebrity guests. The show is also touring this year including a gig at the O2 Arena in London on June 7 (Tickets are available here, priced £76.25)

Hinchcliffe sparked criticism for his racist jokes at Trump's Madison Square Garden campaign rally  last October

But the line that attracted the biggest controversy was: ‘I don’t know if you know this but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now – I think it's called Puerto Rico.’

Trump claimed not to know who Hinchcliffe was, and distanced himself from the joke.

But Hinchcliffe refused to apologise, insisting the gag was based on Puerto Rico's real landfill problem.

In a statement about the new Netflix deal, Hinchcliffe said: ‘Myself and our entire crew of Austin comedians, peers, and upcomers are excited for the opportunity to share our chaotic, insane show with a whole new chunk of the globe."

‘It’s the most spontaneous and improvised show that is out there, and the creative freedom given to us by Netflix to keep the show in its pure form is a comedian’s dream and we can’t wait to Netflix and Kill.’
