Ruth Jones and James Corden to host the Radio 2 breakfast show

To mark the end of Gavin & Stacey

Ruth Jones and James Corden are to take over the Radio 2 breakfast show on December 23 to make the end of  Gavin and Stacey.

They will be joined by many of their fellow cast members from the series including Joanna Page, Mat Horne, Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb and Rob Wilfort - ahead of the  final ever episode on Christmas Day.

The pair joined Zoe Ball to announce the news this morning.

Radio 2 head Helen Thomas said: ‘This one-time-only Gavin and Stacey Takeover of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show is going to be such a special festive treat for us all, ahead of the must-see broadcast of final ever episode on Christmas Day.

‘I can’t wait to welcome Ruth, James and their brilliant co-stars to the station, to spread some Christmas magic to Radio 2 listeners!’

The BBC are pulling out all the stops to celebrate the end of the comedy, and Radio 2 also announced this week that Steadman will be picking her Tracks of My Years with Gary Davies across Christmas week.

The Gavin & Stacey Experience will be available on iPlayer from Friday, hosted by  Steffan Powell and looking at some of the supporting characters across the series.

That includes  Thomas, who played Father Chris; Gwynfor Roberts, who played Dic Powell, Barry’s Welsh speaking wheeler dealer; Catrin-Mai Huw, who played pharmacist  Natalie Lewis; Steven Meo who plays Owain Hughes, Gavin’s colleague; and Gillian Elisa, who had two cameos as the lady who sells lingerie to Nessa at a wedding fair, and a Welsh language campaigner who shouts at Bryn in a caravan park.

BBC Sounds currently hosts both Barry Island Discs – in which Alex Jones celebrates the musical moments from Gavin and Stacey with the show's stars including Corden, Page, and Lamb – and Gavin & Stacey: The Fans' Story, hosted by Eleri Siôn.

And an in-depth ‘making of’ documentary will offer behind-the-scenes footage on BBC One on New Year’s Day.
