Comedian's funeral cortege to pass through Edinburgh and Glasgow

Janey Godley’s funeral procession will take place over two days, taking in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, in what her daughter Ashley Storrie dubbed a ‘final tour’ of Scotland.

The comedian’s hearse will travel through Edinburgh on  November 29 in tribute to her ‘beloved festival home’before returning to Glasgow for the ceremony at St Mary’s Cathedral the next day.

Godley died last Saturday at the age of 63 in the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, where she was receiving palliative care for terminal cancer.

Storrie wrote on social media: ‘For the past few years of Ma's life, it was important to her that she shared her journey with everyone, to offer support for others on the same path and to highlight the symptoms of ovarian cancer - all of course in her very singular Janey style, with laughter and candour.

‘So many of you who have travelled with us on this journey wish to bid her a final farewell, so here's the details of my mum's final tour, in the two cities she loved with all her heart.’

From 2.30pm on November 28, the hearse will travel along the Royal Mile and Lawnmarket in Edinburgh with a ‘pause for reflection’ at St Giles' Cathedral before travelling along Cockburn Street, Market Street and on to Glasgow.

Her funeral service will be at 10am at St Mary's Cathedral, Great Western Road, Glasgow. At 11.30am the funeral procession will head along Great Western Road towards the crematorium for a private family service.  

Storrie added: ‘Janey asked that no flowers be sent, but anyone who wants to contribute - no matter how small-please do so to the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice or a charity of your choice.

‘She also asked that instead of traditional funeral attire that bright colours be worn to celebrate her life by those who wish to do so.

‘Thanks again everyone for all the love and support - it has been greatly received and does help so much.’
