Book deal for comics Abigoliah Schamaun and Joe Wells
Comedians Abigoliah Schamaun and Joe Wells have signed a book deal for a collection of ‘funny and relatable’ autobiographical essays with a neurodivergent theme.
Neurodivergent Moments is inspired by their podcast of the same name, which talks moments which are ‘different, difficult, or more exciting when you have a differently wired brain’.
The book will comprise 24 stories, including the day it dawned on Schamaun – who has ADHD – that she was in special education classes and the complicated game autistic Wells designed for his classmates when they just wanted to play tag.
It will be released as a paperback in 2026 by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, which specialises in titles about neurodiversity. The company previously published Wells’ young adult books Touch and Go Joe: A Teen's Experience of OCD in 2006 and Wired Differently: 30 Neurodivergent People You Should Know in 2022
They describe Neurodivergent Moments as ‘a journey into the diverse world of differently wired brains and the people who own them’.
Schamaun said: ‘It’s always been a dream of mine to write a book. And it’s an honour to write it with Joe, as he’s already set us a writing schedule so it’ll definitely get done.’
And Wells added: ‘I am so excited about writing this book, I’ve made an excellent writing schedule.’
The podcast first aired in April 2022 with each episode featuring an interview with a neurodivergent guest, who have included comedians Angela Barnes, Ashley Storrie, Suzi Ruffell and Sikisa.
