Daddy Issues gets a second series
The BBC has ordered a second series of Daddy Issues, its comedy starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey.
Writer Danielle Ward and producers Fudge park have been commissioned to write six more half-hour episodes of the siege, which was BBC Three's biggest comedy launch in two years.
Sex Education star Wood said: ‘Daddy Issues is the most fun I've ever had on a job and I can't wait to do it again! I'm so excited to see what Danielle has cooking for the gang. I just know it's going to be hilarious and heart melting.’
Morrissey added: ‘I'm delighted to be doing another series of Daddy Issues. Working with Aimee was a dream and Danielle's writing is so funny and heart-warming! Can't wait!’
Wood played Gemma Moscrip, who became pregnant following a random hook-up. With her sister Catherine (Sharon Rooney) in jail and her mother Davina (Susan Lynch) travelling the world to find herself, he had to turn to her hapless father Malcolm for support.
Series one ended with her going into labour at employer Rita's (Sarah Hadland) salon, so the new episodes are set to pick up her story as a new mother.
Ward said: ‘I’m thrilled to be writing for Aimee and David and the rest of this fabulous cast again. I love the Moscrips and can't wait to crack on with their continuing adventures. Sure, a bit of a break would be nice but my hair will grow back, right?’
And Jon Petrie, director of BBC Comedy added: ‘We're delighted to play midwife to a second series of Daddy Issues. Danielle Ward's razor-sharp scripts and the dream pairing of Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey have struck a chord with viewers and we can't wait to see Gemma and Malcolm take the first steps on their parenting/grand-parenting journey.’
The show was directed by The Inbetweeners co-creator Damon Beesley.
