Allo Allo again...
Stars of hit 1980s sitcom Allo Allo are returning to screens to mark the 40th anniversary of the Second World War comedy.
Channel 5 is making one of its retrospectives about the show, with a string of cast members recording interviews.
Sue Hodge, who played waitress Mimi Labonq told the Daily Star: ‘I've been asked to be involved. It's going to be a documentary about the show. It's incredible that there is still so much interest in it after all these years.
Allo Allo, which revolved around cafe owner Renee (Gorden Kaye) reluctantly aiding the Resistance in Occupied France first aired on December 30, 1982, and ran for a decade.
Created by David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd, it starred an ensemble cast that also included Carmen Silvera as Rene’s wife Edith, Vicki Michelle as waitress Yvette Carte-Blanche, and Richard Gibson as Herr Otto Flick of the Gestapo.
Hodge says the comedy still holds up today. ‘I should think half the country has the box set,’ she told the Star. ‘When I watch the repeats on TV I realise I forget how funny and clever it all was.’
Channel 5 has previously made documentaries about Are You Being Served?, Only Fools And Horses and The Two Ronnies, and comedians including Peter Kay and Michael McIntyre that mix archive footage with talking-heads interviews.
