Dawn French is to return to the stage with a new UK stand-up tour.

The show, entitled Dawn French Is A Huge Twat, will visit 20 cities later this year.

She said: ‘This show is so named because unfortunately, it’s horribly accurate.

‘There have been far too many times I have made stupid mistakes or misunderstood something vital or jumped the gun in a spectacular display of twattery. I thought I might tell some of these buttock clenching embarrassing stories to give the audience a peek behind the scenes of my work life…

‘Roll up!  Book early to see the telly vicar lady be a total twat on stage, live in front of your very eyes. And ears.’

It is her first live show since 30 Million Minutes in 2014 - her first as a solo performer – which was later filmed for the BBC during its West End run.

The new tour will start at Peterborough’s New Theatre on September 15 and end in Ipswich on October 16.  Tickets for all shows are on sale now.

It has been directed by Michael Grandage, who also worked on 30 Million Minutes.
