Strong audience for This Is Going To Hurt

This Is Going To Hurt got off to a strong start in the ratings last night, attracting 3.2million viewers to BBC One.

The adaptation of Adam Kay’s NHS memoirs, starring Ben Whishaw as a stressed junior doctor, won almost one in five (19.6 per cent) of  viewers in its 9pm timeslot.

And it beat the Brits, as hosted by Mo Gilligan, which attracted an overnight audience of 2.7million. That figure is 30 per cent down on the 3.9million who watched last year's ceremony, hosted by Jack Whitehall.

Later in the evening, Rose Matafeo’s Starstuck returned to a respectable audience of 310,00 at 11pm, according to the Barb overnight figures, adding to the modest 51,000 who saw the debut on BBC Three’s newly revived linear channel on Monday.

This Is Going To Hurt also garnered huge critical acclaim. The opening episode atttacted five-star reviews in The Times, The Independent, The i, Radio Times the Evening Standard and Chortle  and four from The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph.

The ratings figures were revealed on trade website Broadcast.
