Motorhoming with Paul Merton...

Comic and wife Suki Webster to tour the UK for Channel 5

Paul Merton and his wife Suki Webster are to travel the UK in a motor home for a new Channel 5 series.

Six hour-long episodes of the programme – provisionally if unoriginally titled  Motorhoming With Merton & Webster – have been commissioned.

The news comes after industry bodies reported up to 70 per cent increase in motorhome and campervan registrations last summer.

As well as touring the UK later this year, the couple will be reviewing the latest models and gadgets.

They will also meet motorhome fans who will share their secrets such as how to make your caravan warmer, which loo is the comfiest, how to choose the best spot in a caravan park… and how to park it.

In a statement, the couple said:  ‘Having performed live comedy together for many years in an atmosphere of beautiful magical harmony we are thrilled to bring our insincere relationship to TV via Channel 5.’

Have I Got News For You star Merton married Comedy Store Player Webster in 2009. They have toured together as part of Merton’s Improv Chums troupe and performed together in Webster’s  play My Obsession at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe before it was adapted for Radio 4.

Charlie Bunce, executive producer for progamme-makers Curve Media, added: ‘There cannot be a better way to close the lid on the last year than by hitting the road in a motorhome with Paul and Suki. It will be a chance to visit wonderful bits of Britain, and test out the very best campervanning super hacks and must have gadgets.

‘Paul and Suki’s humour will be the perfect kickstart to the summer for Channel 5 viewers.’

The commission comes after Channel 5 found a hit with Million Pound Motorhomes, which launched in February to an audience of 1.5 million.

Merton previously went caravanning in an episode of his Channel 5 show Paul Merton's Adventures in 2011, pictured above.
