Meet This Country's new vicar – Stifler

Seann William Scott cast in US remake

The American remake of This Country has found its vicar: Stifler from the American Pie movies.

Seann William Scott has been cast in the pilot episode of the half-hour mockumentary now in production for the Fox network.

He will play the calm and optimistic Father Joe, based on Paul Chahidi’s Rev Francis Seaton in the UK original.

Scott already stars as Wesley Cole  in Fox’s  Lethal Weapon series, while his other credits include voicing Crash in the Ice Age movie franchise.

The ‘action’ in the revamp moves from the Cotswolds to the fictional Ohio town of Flatch, and the main characters will be called Kelly and Shrub Mallet, but they have not been cast yet.

Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is overseeing the new version, which is being written by Sex And The City’s Jenny Bicks based on Daisy May and Charlie Cooper’s original.

However the pair – who also play Kurtan and Kerry Mucklowe – yesterday revealed they won’t be getting the windfall they expected from the pilot.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Daisy said: We went to see the woman who was doing the deal and we obviously had in our heads, "Oh my god, we’re gonna get a big house with a pool".’

But she told them: ‘You know you guys could be looking at something like four grand.’

‘What each?’ said Charlie

‘No, between you.’

Daisy mused: ‘But you know…. That’s Hollywood.’

However, things could be very different if the pilot is picked up for a series.

The couple have previously announced that the third UK series, currently being broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer on Mondays, will be the last.
