But playing small clubs renewed his passion

Kevin Bridges has revealed he almost quit stand-up two years ago after becoming disillusioned with the job.

But after a chat with his dad Andy, he took a break from performing to go and learn Spanish in Madrid – which renewed his passion for comedy.

The 32-year-old said he became jaded towards the end of his 145-date tour in 2106.

In a major interview with The Scottish Sun, the Glaswegian comic said: ‘I just got fed up one night and I was questioning how much I was enjoying it because I’m not motivated by money. So much stuff in my own life had been put on hold [for the tour] and it was a wee bit of a shambles.

‘And because I’d put so much into comedy, the idea of waiting for it to end brought this kind of toxic mix of insecurity and thinking "what am I doing here?"’

But when in Spain he cleared his head, explaining: ‘I was walking about Madrid where nobody knows you. You have a freedom and you start to think life’s alright and I started missing stand-up.’

He started doing unannounced work-in-progress gigs in London to tiny crowds and found ‘I was getting that buzz back’.

Bridges – who cut his gig short in Brighton last week after suffering hecklers and a migrane, said that disruptive audience members were self-centred.

‘The majority of people who come to a comedy show do so because they’re a big fan but then you get that odd element who just want to see someone famous and they’re the ones that just want to put on Instagram "I’m at Kevin Bridges" to get attention,’ he said.

‘It’s not really heckling - it’s more idiots shouting shite and it’s a symptom of the modern world…. Now people don’t have shame and it’s about getting any kind of attention.
