Sky picks up Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan series
Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are reuniting for a celebrity interview series.
Rob & Romesh Meet will air on Sky One and follows a pilot episode the pair made last year in which they met and trained with heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
Over the six hour-long shows, they will meet famous names from athletics, boxing, NFL and fashion.
Ranganathan said: 'Rob is a good mate and a great comic so I’m really looking forward to making this show with him. I’m hoping we can effectively mask the fact that we’d both rather be hosting the show alone.'
Beckett said: 'I can’t wait to get started filming with Romesh. We started out in comedy together nine years ago and he’s still as miserable now as he was when he was a school teacher. Hopefully by the end of the series, he will smile at least once and we will have made some great TV.'
Rob and Romesh Meet will be made by CPL Productions, which also makes A League of Their Own for the channel.
Ranganathan has joined the sports panel quiz for the forthcoming 13th series, replacing Jack Whitehall, and will feature in A League of Their Own's European Road Trip with James Corden, Jamie Redknapp and Freddie Flintoff – the first of its kind after several episodes set in the US.
He is also currently shooting his semi-autobiographical sitcom for Sky One, The Reluctant Landlord, and recently piloted Romesh's Look Back To The Future for the channel, a panel show in which celebrities are asked to predict the future with the aid of holograms.
A huge boxing fan, Beckett persuaded the disinterested Ranganathan to spar with him ahead of the Joshua interview.
The pilot aired just before Joshua defeated Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium – a title fight that aired live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Yesterday it was announced that the BBC One singing show Beckett hosts, All Together Now, would be returning for a second series. And his video game show Playing For Time starts on Channel 4 this Friday.
