Good news everyone! Futurama is back
Good news everyone! A new episode of Futurama has been released.
The show was cancelled for a second time in 2013 – but now a new double-length episode has today been put out in podcast form.
Written by David X. Cohen and other original writers, the double-length story was blessed by creator Matt Groening and features the cast of the TV animation.
Billed as: ‘The show that never dies but it so sick it lost its video’, the new Futurama is It is performed as a radio play and serves to promote the release of the new Futurama: Worlds Of Tomorrow mobile game,
The new episode also features a storyline in which the crew’s ‘favourite cancelled TV show is coming back as a low-budget podcast’ – the show being the robot soap opera All My Circuits.
It is being distributed by the Nerdist podcast, whose presenter Chris Hardwick plays the evil Klaxxon, a nefarious life form composed entirely of soundwaves from 21st-century podcasts.
He said: ‘Last year I cornered two fine gentlemen, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, and pitched the idea of doing a new Futura episode as a podcast/radio play because it's one of my favourite things and I need more of it.
‘Today I am drooling with unfiltered joy to say that a) it's actually happening, b) I got to voice the villain (Klaxxon), and c) I'm a freaking head in a jar in Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, a game I've been feverishly playing since it came out. Galaxies of thanks to Matt, David and [production company] TinyCo for acquiescing to the maniacal ravings of a well-meaning fanboy.’
Returning cast include Billy West as Fry, Professor Farnsworth and Zoidberg; Katey Sagal as Leela; John DiMaggio and Bender and Phil LaMarr as Hermes.
Cohen said: ‘Futurama has set off a strangely sci-fi-ish paradox where the episodes inspired the Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow game, and now the game is inspiring new episodes. Hooray for infinite loops!’
The game, available free on the Apple App Store and Google Play blends ‘simulation, combat, galactic exploration, and choose-your-own-adventure gameplay to bring the escapades of the Planet Express crew to life’.
