Herring to host panel show on language

Richard Herring is to host a new radio panel game about the dialects and slang of English speakers from around the world.

Scotland’s Des Clarke and Ireland’s Keith Farnan will join him as team captains for the show, Bad Language.

Six episodes are to be recorded in Glasgow next week, in a co-production for BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Ulster.

The corporation says: ‘Together with special guests, they compete over five rounds to see who best understands dialect, slang and colloquialisms from Scotland, Ireland and the rest of the English speaking world.

‘Through comedy debate and banter we’ll be celebrating language [and] inventing new terms for those currently-nameless-but-irritating things. And who knows, you might pick up some surprising facts along the way.’

It seems to share some similarities with Radio 4’s new game show, Wordaholics, hosted by Gyles Brandreth.

Farnan has previously said of the new show’s host: ‘Comedian-wise, I think Richard Herring is a god.’

Two shows a night will be recorded at Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. Click here for tickets.
