BBC orders Vic & Bob's sitcom
The BBC has commissioned Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer’s sitcom House Of Fools.
Six episodes have been ordered on the back of a pilot shot last month. They will be recorded later in the year for broadcast on BBC Two in 2014.
It will co-star Matt Berry as a ‘lady-obsessed lothario’; stand-up Daniel Simonsen as Bob's sulky Norwegian son, Erik; Morgana Robinson as their man-eater landlady and Angelos Epithemiou creator Dan Skinner, as a Geordie ex-con.
The BBC says: ‘Just as they bent the rules of the panel show format, House Of Fools does the same to the studio sitcom. It’s half an hour of unadulterated Reeves and Mortimer, uniquely surreal jokes, physical nonsense, daft songs, unimaginable props and impossible situations with a comedy thoroughbred cast.’
Shane Allen, the BBC’s controller of comedy commissioning, said: ‘Vic and Bob are the daddies of daft comedy and it’s a total joy to watch two men in their 50s goof about so gloriously. I’m extremely proud to bring them back to the BBC in this hilarious reincarnation.’
House Of Fools is still a working title and may yet change. It is being made in-house by the BBC.
Last year, Reeves said he felt unwanted by the Corporation after they cancelled Shooting Stars after 20 years.
