America's Getting On nicely with its remake

HBO orders a full series

The American remake of Jo Brand’s hospital sitcom Getting On has been picked up for a full series.

HBO has ordered six episodes of the show, which stars Roseanne's Laurie Metcalf, Family Guy's Alex Borstein, Reno 911's Niecy Nash, following a successful pilot.

Screenwriters Mark V. Olsen & Will Scheffer adapted the scripts of the award-winning BBC Four series, and said the subject matter of geriatric care was ‘very, very personal’ to them as they both have first-hand experience of caring for mothers in their nineties.

The BBC original was created by Brand and her co-stars Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine. All three women are executive producers on the HBO version.

The pay-network recently picked up Stephen Merchant’s Hello Ladies - about the comic’s fictional exploits on the LA dating scene - for a full series, as well as the Christopher Guest series Family Tree, starring Chris O’Dowd and Nina Conti.
