...but probably not for a decade

Rik Mayall has said Bottom COULD return - despite co-star Ade Edmondson vowing never to work on such a show again.

However, fans might have to wait another decade for the revival, when their characters would be cantankerous pensioners.

The pair started work on a six-part series last year, but they abandoned the idea within weeks. And last month Edmondson said he wasn’t interested in doing ‘anything like Bottom with Rik Mayall again.’

However, at the launch of Jonathan Creek this week, in which he has a guest role, Mayall revived hopes for a return.

Mayall, who is 55 tomorrow, said Edmondson ‘wants to wait ten years, until we're older’.

He told reporters: ‘Ade said, “We're not old enough”. I said, “Yes we are – it's called acting.”

‘He just put his foot down and said, “It's not going to work, mate.”

‘He wants to wait ten years... I won't be able to see or hear or walk.’
