Radio drama nod for Alice Lowe
A radio comedy created by Sightseers star Alice Lowe is up for a BBC drama award.
Her Radio 4 series Alice’s Wunderland, which aired over the summer, has been shortlisted for the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2013.
She faces competition in the comedy category from her Garth Marenghi co-star Matt Berry, who is nominated for I, Regress, in which he plays a twisted regression therapist.
Completing the shortlist is Believe It! – a spoof biography of One Foot In The Grave star Richard Wilson, written by Jon Canter
Lowe’s nomination might come as some consolation after Sightseers, which she wrote with co-star Steve Lowe, was overlooked in the Bafta shortlist today.
The omission prompted Simon Pegg to tweet: ‘Very sad to see that Sightseers miss out on a Bafta nod. As is often the case, edgy + comedy + beloved cult fav = thoroughly ignored.’
The BBC Audio Drama Awards awards will be announced on January 27, and the comedy category was judged by agent Hannah Begbie, critic Bruce Dessau, literary agent Christopher William Hill, and Alexei Sayle.
