New Year sitcoms score big ratings
The New Year’s Day editions of Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys scored huge ratings for BBC One.
Miranda’s sitcom was seen by 9.04 million at 9pm, only marginally down on the 9.5 million average who watched the series debut on Boxing Day.
Although it was narrowly beaten in the day’s ratings by EastEnders’ 9.1million viewers, it was a very strong showing for the comedy.
And Mrs Brown pulled in 8.1million viewers after the soap – almost 30 per cent of the entire TV audience in its 10pm timeslot.
Elsewhere, Charlie Brooker's 2012 Wipe delivered 1.3 million viewers to BBC Two between 10pm and 11pm.
The overnight figures come from BARB ratings data supplied by Attentional.
