It's the comics' comic

Comedians become Beano characters

Some of Britain’s top comedians have been turned into Beano characters in honour of the British Comedy Awards.

The magazine has printed a special edition of its annual, with a cover featuring the likes of John Bishop, Miranda Hart, Jack Dee, Sarah Millican, Harry Hill and Jonathan Ross.

Guests at tomorrow night’s award ceremony – which will air live on Channel 4 from 9pm will be given the special editions. Only 1,000 copies of have been made.

The comic’s editor-in-chief, Mike Stirling, said: ‘I wonder how many of this year’s British Comedy Award winners were inspired to become comics after reading The Beano, the world’s funniest comic? I hope The Beano continues to be the first stop for jokes, laughs and pranks for the next generation of British Comedy Award winners too.’

The annual marks the 75th anniversary of The Beano next year; as the first edition was published on July 30, 1938.
