Peter Kay's new show: More details

Spoof is to be called Malachy’s Millions

Channel 4 has revealed further details of Peter Kay’s next comedy special, to be called Malachy’s Millions.

As Chortle reported last month, the show will be a spoof version of Secret Millionaire, in which Kay will play the Irish owner of a coach company.

The plot will involved him leaving the boardroom of his coach empire The Mooneys – whose motto is Taking You Away From Everything You Know – to live undercover in a Northern England mining town.

Malachy’s Millions will be written by stand-up comic and Life’s Too Short actor Jo Enright with her friend Lorna Burke, and made by Steve Coogan and Henry Normal’s production house Baby Cow.

Channel 4’s deputy head of comedy Nerys Evans said:  ‘It’s fantastic to have Peter starring in this beautifully written comedy from Baby Cow. We can’t wait to have him back on our screens in this laugh out loud narrative comedy.’

Speaking on Steve Wright’s Radio 2 show last month, Kay said: ‘‘I’m playing an old Irish guy, from Limerick, who runs a coach company, so it’s nice to be able to put the stand-up away and put a wig on and some false teeth and be somebody else for a while and do that for a few years.’’
