Comedy fan injured by falling speaker
A woman was rushed to hospital after a loudspeaker fell on her head at a comedy club.
The punter at Arizona’s Stand Up Scottsdale was knocked out when the club’s compere knocked into the speaker stand, causing it to fall.
She was taken out of the venue on a stretcher, and in hospital diagnosed with a broken wrist, two broken ribs, and some swelling on her brain. A loudspeaker typically weighs around 20lb, or 9kg.
Footage of last weekend’s incident – below – shows confusion and concern before someone calls the 911 emergency number.
Comedian Mike Kennedy, pictured who was on stage at the time, told the audience: ‘This is horrible’ before calling an interval.
He told Chortle today: ‘She has been recovering at home and doing better, from what I have heard. It was definitely a bad situation and not an ideal spot to try to do comedy afterwards.’
The compere was not a comedian but a host from the charity the gig was raising funds for. He was wearing American football shoulder pads as he stole veteran US comedian Bob Nelson's gridiron routine to open the show.
Kennedy made some jokes about the incident when the show restarted, and said: ‘It ended up being a really good show.’
