BBC gets Parks & Rec
BBC Four has brought the rights to award-winning US comedy Parks and Recreation.
The station has brought the first two series of the NBC sitcom, set in a council department in the fictional Indiana town of Pawnee.
BBC Four controller Richard Klein said he brought the series as it was ‘well written, ambitious and the characters are complex but flawed’.
He added: 'I’m delighted that we have acquired Parks And Recreation, one of America’s smartest comedy series.'
The sitcom hit the headlines recently for a guest appearance from vice-president Joe Biden; a politician whom star Amy Poehler’s character, city councilwoman Leslie Knope, has long had a crush on.
BBC Four has previously found success with imports Mad Men and The Killing, and will hope Parks and Recreation – which is currently in its fifth season in the States – will follow suit.
The channel has also unveiled a raft of comedy shows in what it says will be a year-round focus on the genre.Published: 21 Nov 2012
