Newsnight producer 'is a comedian'

Odd revelation from BBC scandal

A producer behind the Newsnight report that brought down the BBC’s director-general has been ‘outed’ as an aspiring stand-up comic.

Ming Tsang, a freelancer working for the BBC, was among the team behind the report which led to Lord McAlpine being wrongly branded a paedophile.

And The Sun today reports that he is also a comedian. However, he appears to have done the bare minimum to qualify for that description.

He appeared at new act night The Humour League in London on July 25, where he was described as ‘quirky’. A photograph shows him in a lifejacket, hard hat and cheesy grin, while giving the thumbs up.

The Humour League also staged shows at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe – just for three nights in a Free Festival venue – although it is not clear if Tsang, who uses the stage surname Sang, was among them.

Tsang was a location producer on the November 2 report about historic child abuse at a North Wales care home, which led to false rumours to circulate about Lord McAlpine – and ultimately forced BBC boss George Entwistle to resign. A number of basic mistakes were made on the Newsnight story, which have been leapt upon by other parts of the press.
