Scotland honours Billy Connolly

...while he's in California

Billy Connolly is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement gong at the Scottish Baftas.

But the comic will not be at the awards ceremony in Glasgow next month – as he is working in San Francisco.

He will instead receive the award at a public event in December when his outstanding contribution to television and film will be honoured.

Connolly, 69, said last night: ‘I’m really proud to receive this from Bafta in Scotland, I’m really sorry I can’t be there.’

Previous winners of the award include Sir Sean Connery, Brian Cox and Robbie Coltrane.

As Chortle reported last week, those nominated for Scottish Baftas include Kevin Bridges, Mrs Brown's Boys and Rab C Nesbitt stars Gregor Fisher and Elaine C Smith.
