America takes on Gavin & Stacey

Second shot at a remake

America is having a second stab at remaking Gavin & Stacey.

The Fox network has ordered a script for its own version, and signed up creators and stars James Corden and Ruth Jones as executive producers.

However the pair will not appear on screen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new script will be written by David Rosen, who worked on an unsuccessful US remake of Star Stories.

BBC Worldwide Productions and Sony Pictures TV are producing the show with original producers, Baby Cow, whose boss Henry Normal is another executive producer.

Two years ago, rival ABC dropped their attempt to remake the series. At the time, Jones, who has ruled out any more UK episodes for some time, said: ‘‘I always felt if they made one and it was successful, then that’s great, but if they didn’t, it was never going to detract from the British version.’
