Like Twitter - but for voice messages

Ricky Gervais has launched his own iPhone app – which aims to be like Twitter, but using voice messages.

The comic is a partner and creative director of the social median project, called Just Sayin’ – which was developed by tech firm CloudTalk.

Gervais says the free app will be ‘to radio what Twitter is to newsprint, making the human voice a natural part of any social web experience’.

CloudTalk's David Hayden added: ‘Voice has been the missing link to a person’s online persona. Social media interaction is widely silent and we know text has its limitations, sentiments can be difficult to express in 140 characters.’

Gervais has posted one three-minute voice message on Just Sayin’ so far, as well as some pictures and text posts.

In it, he claims to be giving up Twitter, saying: ‘I’ve been about a year on Twitter, and I think that might be enough. There are too many idiots on there.’

He said it was then described an ongoing row he had with a Christian woman, who publicly took him to task on his atheist views, then accused him of bullying when he stated his case back again – as his followers also criticised her. He said: ‘If I can’t fight back, then I’m not getting in the ring.’

And he said of the new app: ‘At least I can articulate myself, there’s less ambiguity. This might put off the trolls enough... They might like hiding in the dark and staying anonymous.’

However, he’s posted around another 30 messages on Twitter since that message.
