Sky to revive spoof chat show
The Kumars at No 42 is set to make a comeback – but in a downsized version.
Sky are planning to revive the show, but with the family now reduced to living in a flat in Hounslow that the father runs. And the title is now The Kumars At No 42B to reflect that.
Sanjeev Bhaskar returns as the host, interviewing celebrities in the home, but his character is now divorced, with part-custody of his eight-year-old daughter
Bhaskar said: 'It’s incredibly exciting to revisit these warm, oddball characters and to be given the opportunity to bring them up to date. We’ve tried to retain what viewers loved about the original show and to inject new characters and elements in a slightly new format that we hope will appeal to an even broader audience.'
The original show ran for 53 episodes over seven series from 2001 to 2006, and won two international Emmies. It started on BBC Two but later moved to BBC One.
A pilot will be shot in front of a studio audience in London this month – see our free tickets page to be in the audience.
The revival, which will also feature Meera Syal, Vincent Ebrahim and Indira Joshi, will be made by Have I Got News For You producers Hat Trick, which produced the original.
