Louis gets lucky at Comedy Awards
Louis CK has scooped four gongs at America’s Comedy Awards, including best stand-up tour and best comedy special.
His show Louis also won best TV comedy directing and best sketch/alternative comedy series Accepting the latter award, CK said: ‘I didn't know we were a sketch show, but thank you
Bridesmaids also picked up four prizes: for best comedy film, best comedy screenplay, best director for Paul Fieg and best actress for Melissa McCarthy.
Special accolades at the awards – set up last year by the Comedy Central TV channel – went to Don Rickles and to Robin Williams.
Rickles, the 85-year-old pioneer of insult comedy, won the Johnny Carson Award Presenter Jon Stewart said ‘People love Don Rickles, but comics revere Don Rickles’
Robin Williams won the Icon Award, calling himself ‘one of the luckiest fucks in show business’ and adding: ‘The only difference between me and a leprechaun is that I snorted my pot of gold.’
One of the surprise winners of the night was adult spy cartoon Archer, which was named best animated comedy series.
Hannibal Buress, one of the hits last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, was named best club comic. And the show he works on, 30 Rock, won the TV writing award.
Parks and Recreation won best comedy series and star Amy Poehler won best TV actress, while Ty Burrell won the best actor award for his role in Modern Family
The Daily Show won best late-night series, while best viral original went to Songify This: Winning- A Song By Charlie Sheen, an autotuned mashup of his interviews, which has had more than 42million YouTube views.
