Oh my God! They revived Kenny
Kenny Everett is to be the latest comedy great to get the BBC Four biopic treatment.
Tim Whitnall, who created he stage play Morecambe, has written a 90-minute biopic The Best Possible Taste, focusing on Everett’s relationship with his wife, singer Lee Middleton.
Despite his homosexuality, they married in 1966, when he was a young DJ, and separated in 1979.
Oliver Lansley, who co-wrote the Alan Davies sitcom White’s, plays Everrett, while former Coronation Street actor Katherine Kelly plays Middleton
Richard Klein, the controller of BBC4, said: ‘Kenny Everett was a genuine original: wild and unfocused maybe, but also deliciously anarchic and always entertaining," said.
‘In many ways Kenny was a very modern celebrity, wearing his heart on his sleeve while coping with a complex life. Re-evaluating this talented and exuberant personality, enabling audiences to reconsider Kenny's undoubted impact and legacy, makes this a very BBC4 drama.’
