Fresh Meat scoops two RTS Awards

It wasn't just the Chortles last night...

Fresh Meat was a double winner at the RTS programme awards last night.

The Channel 4 ensemble comedy won best scripted comedy, while creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong took home the award for comedy writing.

Him and Her stars Russell Tovey and Sarah Solemani have scooped the award for best comedy performance, with judges praising their ‘perfect partnership’ which was ‘understated but wickedly funny’.

Meanwhile the Morecambe and Wise biopic Eric & Ernie won best single drama, with Peter Bowker taking the writing award - although Daniel Rigby was pipped to the best actor gong by Dominic West, for his portrayal of serial killer Fred West in ITV1's drama Appropriate Adult.

And the international award was scooped by Sky1’s imported sitcom Modern Family, which was described as ‘a smart, superbly constructed and unpretentiously conceived comedy which is simply very funny’.

Beryl Vertue received the Lifetime Acheivement Award for a career spanning everything from Galton & Simpson, Men Behaving Badly and Sherlock.
