BBC Three launches dating comedy

...based on US sports shows

BBC Three is launching a comedy dating series that treats romance like an American sport.

World Series Of Dating will see genuine male contestants attempt to impress a panel of women in ‘the date zone’. But their efforts will be analysed by comic ‘commentators’, with slow-motion action replays, overblown graphics and pumping music.

American comic Rob Riggle, a regular on The Daily Show and reserve with the US Marines, will be the American correspondent, with stand-up and Torchwood actor Tom Price as the British one. Thaila Zucchi, who has appeared in Star Stories, will be a touchline reporter, while newcomer Bentley Kalu will play a referee.

The eight-part series will culminate with the winner crowned Britain's Greatest Living Dater.

BBC commissioner Alan Tyler said: ‘It's dating, it's sport, it's comedy and we are delighted to have such a “prestigious” tournament showcased on BBC Three.’

The show, which airs next month, follows Channel 4’s Pete Versus Life, which added an action-sports commentary to the love life of its lead character – although that was pure sitcom without the reality element.
