Dom Joly to replace TV Burp
Dom Joly is set to replace Harry Hill’s TV Burp – with yet another hidden camera show.
He tweeted yesterday that his show Fool Britannia had been commissioned for an eight-part series.
The show will go out on Saturday nights before X Factor, he revealed, adding: ‘If you are in the UK you are now a legitimate target.’
And the confessed that the show ‘will never be as good as the superb TV Burp but will give it my best’.
Harry Hill is quitting TV Burp after finding the research needed to compile the show too demanding.
In a blog post this week he said that the show will end in March with a ‘huge finale’.
He wrote: ‘The new (and it seems last) series of TV Burp starts up on the 4th Feb and finishes 8 shows later at the end of March in a huge finale - SO MAKE THE MOST OF IT !!!’
The new show returns Joly to the hidden camera format which made his name on Channel 4’s Trigger Happy TV in 2000.
But ITV chiefs will be hoping Fool Britannia proves a bigger success than his follow-up for the BBC, World Shut Your Mouth, which ran for just one series in 2005 after struggling to keep its audience.
