Bafta nod for Chris Langham's comeback

Black Pond nominated for best debut

Black Pond – the dark comedy film that marked Chris Langham’s return to the screen following his child pornography conviction – has been nominated for a Bafta.

The film, from former Cambridge Footlights members Will Sharpe and Tom Kingsley, has today been shortlisted for the award for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer.

It tells the story of a family who bury a complete stranger who dies at their dinner table, and also features Simon Amstell in his first big-screen role, as an irritating psychologist.

Also nominated in the sane category is coming-of-age film Submarine, the directorial debut of IT Crowd star Richard Ayoade, and Attack The Block, from Adam & Joe’s Joe Cornish.

The shortlist is completed by Ralph Fiennes’s Coriolanus and Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur.

Winners will be announced on Sunday February 12 at London's Royal Opera House.
