New challenge planned

Eddie Izzard is reportedly planning to run barefoot through Africa.

The 49-year-old is said to be considering a run of similar distance to the 1,100 miles he covered for Sport Relief two years ago, raising £200,000.

But this time Izzard – who has just come back from a trip to Kenya with UNICEF – will face sweltering heat, while risking injury by ditching his trainers .

A source told the Mirror he hopes to embark on the run early in the new year, adding: ‘He really needs to get training.

‘I'm not sure he knows what he's letting himself in for but he's still in great shape and determined to go the distance.

But spokeswoman Karon Maskill said: ‘There are no definite plans in place.’
