ITV boss plans more comedies
ITV is considering a move back into comedy – a genre boss Peter Fincham admits it has neglected.
The broadcaster’s director of television admitted that it had ‘lost its nerve’ when commissioning comedy because of the high risks involved. Benidorm is currently ITV’s only scripted comedy hit.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, he said: ‘I would very much like to do something about it.’
Fincham, whose background is in comedy, says he was impressed with hits such as Miranda – and that a comedy season could help ‘kick start’ a push into the genre.
