C4 to make comedy about phone-hacking scandal

Channel 4 is to make an hour-long comedy about the News International phone hacking scandal.

Guy Jenkin, who co-wrote Drop The Dead Donkey, has written a satirical script based in a fictional newspaper which will stoop to any lengths to get a story.

He said: ‘We hope to be faster and funnier than all the inquiries so far.’

No cast for the show – provisionally titled Hacks – has yet been announced, but it will air before Christmas.

Channel 4’s head of comedy, Shane Allen, said: ‘We are very excited about Hacks – and it’s great that Channel 4 can be so quick off the mark to shine a satirical light on what's been happening in the media over the last few months.’

Hacks is being made by Hat Trick Productions, which also made Drop The Dead Donkey.
