US sitcom is a top DVD rental

American sitcom Modern Family is the most-loved comedy DVD box set, according to a new survey.

The mockumentary-style series, shown on Sky One in the UK, is second only in popularity to the acclaimed, sprawling crime drama The Wire, according to rental service LoveFilm.

The second most-loved comedy was The Big Bang Theory (fifth in the overall list), followed by The Inbetweeners.

A spokesman said: ‘Who'd have thought a series around the lives of four socially-awkward science geniuses would have been such a huge hit with comedy fans? ‘

The Killing, Dexter and Misfits were also popular drama rentals.
