Russell Brand set for faith-crisis comedy

Comic is offered barman role

Russell Brand is set to star in new comedy drama about a religious woman who has a crisis of faith.

He is being lined up for a key role in Lamb Of God, the directorial debut of Juno writer Diablo Cody, movie website Twitch reports.

The film tells the story of a young conservative who loses her faith following a plane crash. As she recovers, she heads to Las Vegas to indulge in the sinful life she's always been warned against – before finding her way back to religion. While in Vegas, she befriends a bartender, the role Brand is being lined up for.

Cody has some experience of the world the film is set in, having come to prominence through her Pussy Ranch blog and her 2006 memoir Candy Girl, both of which chronicled her life as a stripper.

Lamb Of God is expected to be released at the end of next year.
