Unwelcome Matt

Lucas acts to shut down Twitter imposter

Matt Lucas has acted to shut down an imposter who has been posing as him on Twitter.

The Little Britain actor said: ‘I've reported @mrmattlucas - the fraudster pretending to be me. The worst part of it is that people who follow him now think I can't spell.’

The imposter wrote on his profile: ‘Hi guys welcome to my Official twitter page ive been really busy over the past few years so really sorry I havent answered many questions.’

And he even had the gall to claim: ‘@RealMattLucas [Lucas’s genuine account] is a fake account everyone please note this is the real me thanks x’

The phoney also attempted to con people into believing he was the real deal by incorporating a tick into his user name, a clumsy attempt to replicate the logo the social networking uses to verify genuine celebrity posters.

The imposter has racked up 950 followers since starting the feed in 2009, and engaged with fans as if he was the real comedian, inviting questions and accepting compliments.

However, the tally is nothing compared to the real Lucas, who has more than 386,000 followers.
