Garry's a comedy god
Garry Shandling is to be given a lifetime achievement award by Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival next week.
Announcing the news today, organisers called The Larry Sanders creator ‘one of comedy’s treasures, not only as a comedy idol, but as a writer, actor, and inventive revolutionary’.
Shandling – who also starred in the acclaimed It’s Garry Shandling’s Show in the Eighties – will pick up the prize on Friday, at the comedy conference that has formed part of the international event for the past three years.
Also being honoured is Louis CK, who will be crowned Comedy Person Of The Year, and Modern Family creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, who will be jointly named Comedy Writer Of The Year. Paul Feig will be named Comedy Director Of The Year for his work on The Office, and the Breakout Comedy Star Of The Year will go to to Ken Jeong, who plays Ben Chang on the NBC comedy series Community.
