Wood, Fry and Horgan join the little people

BBC remakes The Borrowers

Victoria Wood, Stephen Fry and Sharon Horgan are to all appear in a new BBC version of the Borrowers.

Pulling’s Horgan stars alongside former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston as the parents of the Arrietty Clock, the tiny Borrower who sneaks out of their world to mingle with the 'human beans'.

Wood plays Grandma Driver, the human who is determined to hunt the little people out of her house, while Fry plays Professor Mildeye who knows the Borrowers exist and is determined to prove it.

The 90-minute film, adapted from Mary Norton's classic children's books by EastEnders writer Ben Vanstone, will be shown on BBC One over Christmas. It will be filmed over five weeks this summer.

Ben Stephenson, the controller of BBC drama commissioning called the new version ‘a brilliant and bold contemporary version of this classic tale with all the charm of the original but with a thrilling, moving and funny modern sensibility’.
