Big break for Joe Lycett

Former Chortle Student Comedy Award-winner Joe Lycett has scored his first TV break – straight into a regular role on prime-time Saturday night show.

The 22-year-old comic is to appear each week on Alexander Armstrong’s Epic Win, alongside panellist Micky Flanagan.

The BBC One show invites people with ‘unique skills’ to put them to the test, with a comedy panel passing judgement on how well they performed the challenges.

In its call for participants, the BBC said: ‘Do you have a totally mind-boggling talent? Can you do something utterly amazing that no one has seen before?

Can you perform an incredible physical feat, do you have a bonkers invention or do you have a record breaking collection of weird and wonderful items? The more bizarre the better but singers and dancers need not apply.’

Lycett broke the ‘silly news’ on Twitter, adding: ‘Thanks for all the congrats. I'm terrified but then I was terrified about Alton Towers today and had a great time.’

The show is being recorded in front of a live studio audience in July and August – see our Free Tickets page to apply – for broadcast later this summer.

Lycett, who has been a stand-up for little over three years, won the 2009 Chortle Student Comedy Award, and was named best newcomer at the main Chortle Awards last year.
