Actor was 90

Donald Hewlett, who played the well-heeled Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Reynolds in the Seventies sitcom It Ain't Half Hot Mum, has died at age of 90.

The actor, who played Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Reynolds in the show, had been ill for some time, his wife Therese McMurray-Hewlett told the BBC.

Hewlett was also known for playing the master of the house, Lord Meldrum, in another Jimmy Perry and David Croft sitcom You Rang M'Lord?

A former member of the Cambridge Footlights comedy troupe, his other TV and fil appearances included Spike Milligan’s Adolf Hitler - My Part in His Downfall, The Ronnie Corbett Show, The Ronnie Barker Playhouse, The Dick Emery Show and the 1971 Doctor Who story The Claws of Axos.

Hewlett last appeared on TV in the ITV sitcom The Upper Hand in 1995.
