Hitchhikers' Guide set to tour
The original cast of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy are to reunite for a tour of the sci-fi comedy.
Simon Jones, who played Arthur Dent in the original radio series and the 1981 TV version, broke the news on Radio 3 yesterday.
He told presenter Rob Cowan: ‘The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy is going on the road next year, with all the original principal members of the cast.
‘We’re going to make stops in various cities around the country as ourselves reconstructing and reimagining a recording with live sound and live music.’
Although he did not specify who was taking part or where the tour would visit, he said: ‘Watch this space because we’ll soon have where to book and where to go.’
The tour would follow the success of other radio recreations for the stage, such as Round The Horne Revisited, but with the added attraction of the original cast.
Although none of these names have been confirmed, the original radio cast included Geoffrey McGivern as Ford Prefect, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox, Susan Sheridan as Trillian. For the TV version, David Dixon played Ford, and Sandra Dickinson took the role of Trillian.
The Book was originally voiced by Peter Jones, who died in 2000.
