Jane Horrocks to star in Sky sitcom

Trollied set in NW supermarket

Sky has commissioned a new sitcom starring Jane Horrocks and set in a supermarket in the North West.

Trollied is the latest move by the broadcaster to commission more original comedy, rather than relying on imports.

Production began on the eight half-hour episodes in Bristol last week. It has been written by a team of writers, led by Julie Rutterford, whose credits include Shameless and Life On Mars.

The ensemble cast also includes Mark Addy, Jason Watkins, Rita May, Joel Fry, Nick Blood, Chanel Cresswell and Lorraine Cheshire

Sky’s head of comedy, Lucy Lumsden, said: ‘Trollied is the first of a number of brand new British comedies for Sky and we’re extremely excited by the talent around the show, on and off screen.'

Director of programmes Stuart Murphy added: ‘Trollied is a fantastic example of the aspirations we have for comedy on Sky 1 HD. I am delighted that our comedy output is increasing and that we're firmly establishing Sky as the home of great British comedy.’

The series, which is being made by Ash Atalla’s production company Roughcut, will be broadcast in July.

Other comedy commissions already announced include the Ruth Jones comedy drama Stella, the family comedy Mount Pleasant, starring Coronation Street’s Sally Lindsay, and the surreal This Is Jinsy, which previously piloted on BBC Three.
