Tim Minchin to play the Proms

First comedy gig in festival's 116 years

Tim Minchin is to appear in this year’s Proms, marking the first time comedy has been programmed at the classical music festival in its 116-year history.

The comic pianist will appear alongside Sue Perkins and cabaret duo Kit and the Widow at the specially-billed Comedy Prom.

It will also feature soprano Susan Bullock, pianist Danny Driver and the BBC Concert Orchestra as well as other guests yet to be named.

The Comedy Prom will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on August 13 and be broadcast on BBC Two on the 27th.

Other concerts in the series include one dedicated to the music of films such as Harry Potter and Star Wars, the night before the Comedy Prom.
