Miranda triumphs at Comedy Awards

Triple victory for sitcom star

Miranda Hart has cleaned up at the British Comedy Awards, taking three gongs including the Queen of Comedy as voted by viewers.

She also won best new TV comedy for her BBC Two sitcom Miranda and best comedy actress.

Russell Brand won the Outstanding Contribution To Comedy gong but was unable to collect it in person, avoiding a live TV reunion with host Jonathan Ross.

Lifetime Achievement Award went to Roy Clarke, the writer of Open All Hours and all 295 episodes of Last of the Summer Wine.

And Horrible Histories become the first children's comedy show to win an award since Ant & Dec’s SM:TV Live in 2000, by scooping the best sketch show title.
