Minchin wins Aussie accolade

Tim's honour for Australia Day

Tim Minchin has been named Young Australian Achiever of the Year.

The 35-year-old comic was honoured in a ceremony for those who best represent Australia in the UK.

Perth-born Minchin now lives in London, and recently won acclaim for his orchestral tour – which plays the Royal Albert Hall later this year – and his stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda.

At the same ceremony in London, goldsmith Stuart Devlin was named Australian of the Year, while former British High Commissioner to Australia, Lord Alastair, received an honorary title.

The gongs were handed out by the Australia Day Foundation, which aims to bring together the Australias in the UK to celebrate the national day and promote Australia.
